Our considerable experience assessing ideas has informed how we ask questions of people pitching to us. We have structured the form below in such a way as to both educate "Ideators" and to filter out ideas that are not viable to begin with. Please only submit information that you are permitted to share - we are not responsible if your submission breaches any NDAs or other relevant agreements already in place. Each box in the form at the bottom of this page should be filled out according to the following guidelines.
When we talk about an Idea, we are talking about 2 things: a Problem and its Solution. If it can't be described in this way, then it will be impossible to identify Whose problem it is, and the perceived value of solving it for them. An example that comes up often is an idea for a video game. The Problem in this case is boredom. If people were not bored, they wouldn't reach for your product. There are many benefits to thinking this part through carefully, so don't rush it or ignore it.
The most common answer? EVERYBODY! We all want to imagine that every human on Earth is a potential customer. But the reality is that we only have so many people we can reach with the resources available. Narrowing it down (finding your "niche") is actually a good sign to a savvy investor or potential partner. Be realistic, describe your ideal customer/client in as much detail as you can.
Time for the fun part! Dazzle us with your novel solution to the Problem. Give us as much detail as you can, but keep it focused only on your Solution - there is another box for describing other Solutions you know about.
Are there any technical terms you needed to use in describing your Solution that we might not know? Define them here please (Optional)
This is really important. If you have NO idea of your competitive advantage, you don't really have an Idea, you just have a dream. In those rare cases where your Solution produces a result that others cannot achieve at all, then you are likely justified in charging MORE, but remember this question is asked from the Customer's perspective, so even paying MORE must save me more than I spend.
We don't worry about the theft of untested ideas, because they don't have an inherent value yet. But in those cases where you don't wish to reveal your actual Solution, you can sponsor a "Reverso" segment. If you choose this option, we will read out all the information you have shared on the form EXCEPT for the Solution itself. Then we will race to find as many other solutions to the Problem as we can find, sharing them in real time with the Ideator and the Audience. If we come up with your solution, we win! But if we don't, you will still learn something about your Idea's context as well as having that bit more understanding of the value of your Solution. Please indicate your desire to play "Reverso" at the bottom of the form.
